Main menu items (Feel free to discuss synonyms for these items in this thread):
- Play
- Options
- Demos (or Replays, Recordings? Demos is quake convention.)
- Quit (or Exit, whatever)
Other elements on the main menu:
- Credits (like half the size as the others, possibly separate to the others)
- Version & Build (Somewhere down the bottom, in a corner, even smaller than the credits)
- Title (large, centered somewhere - above or below menu - whatever looks good)
Our present concept has developed a little from Jani's concept:

With modifications:
- Two player models on either side of the menu, facing each other aggressively. Makes menu symmetrical.
- Fog rolling over the bottom of the player models
- Casting effects on player's hands, change when you mouse over different menu items.
Other Menu graphics (not used on main menu):
- Button background (possibly variations for clicked down and mouse over)
- Scrolling arrows (up, down, left, right)
- Some kind of frame for map preview pics?
Loading screen graphics:
- Progress bar at the bottom (obviously divide into pieces so I can make it fill up)
Other graphics items not covered in this thread include: HUD, scoreboard, console (background, whatever), spell icons.

It may not suit the style/theme of the game, but that may not matter for the menu.
I guess it sounds pretty clean, sort of goes with the (minimalist sort of) white BG in the current concept?
